Alpine ready for 1.0 mm ground clearance rule

Post by gordon »

Guys, my Alpine is now ready for the new 1.0 mm minimum "ground clearance under the motor" requirement with insulation tape in place:

Notice the contact patches on both rear tyres. As the long-standing description in the rules states, this is how the ground clearance will be checked - "...held in place by gripping the car and tech block in one hand so that they can not be separated". Make sure that your rally cars comply by the next event.

My Slot.It Challenge Nissan R89C is also now complying to the 1.0 mm ground clearance under the magnet requirement. I checked my Kitbash Triumph TR4A and it already complies with the rule.

Well I had a marathon car preparation session today, starting around 9:30 this morning and closing up the slot car workshop at 7:15 this evening, almost ten hours of work. The good news is that, in addition to the ground clearance work mentioned above, I have almost nothing to do in preparation for our next event, since I worked on my Porsche 911R, Viper, Toyota 88C and F1 car. Just have to prep the Zakspeed Capri and I'm good to go.

Way to go Gordon ! I'm very interested to see how the lap times would be affected by the 1.0 mm rule, particularly in the Rally Class.

I predict that the fastest rally times will be just under 8 seconds. Slot.It Challenge may drop about 0.3 sec.

With a fastest ever time of 8.026 sec, perhaps my Peugeot 205 T16 will become competitive again!

If this 205 could do a 8.026 sec. lap with no adjustments to ground clearance, it just might be the car to beat !
